Dido's Way, 2022

For the new building of the police and justice center in Zurich, 1:1 model of a prison cell was built in the old freight station opposite and used as a demonstration example for journalists.

In August 2022, I spent a month in the cell, looking for artistic ways out of the confined space. Using a walk-in wooden construction, I connected the existing prison furniture - table, closet and bed. In this way, a path was created on which one can move in a loop and over different levels of the cell.

The work is inspired by cat ladders the legend of Dido‘s foundation history of Carthague. It is an attempt to expand the limited prison space and provide opportunities for movement beyond the surface of the floor.
