Drifted Black, 2014
Installation: object, 2 catalogues for kitchen fittings, 5 photographs, MDF plate
Sinopale 5 – International Sinop Biennial, Turkey
The core of the installation “Drifted Black” is a segment of a door frame and a door made from collected weather-beaten and washed up pieces of wood. The wood has been drifting in the sea for an unknown amount of time or exposed to intense sunlight, wind and rain. Shaped by time and elemental influences, each piece gained distinctive colour and texture qualities.
The cut open door frame fragment refers to display copies of prefabricated furniture. They are presented in shops that sell complete kitchens outfits and office fittings – a common product for freshly married couples and start-up entrepreneurs to furnish their new home or bureau.
