Building facade with 88 blinds and cloths, tribune for spectators

The exhibition takes place on Flüelastrasse in Albisrieden, where my studio is also located. From the forecourt of the studio building, I have been observing for over a year a phenomenon of modern building technology on the building opposite: in the evening of sunny days, the blinds of the entire building facade go up simultaneously. With the work „Ereignis 1 / Event 3“ I want to draw attention to this observation.

The spectators take a seat on a specially made trubune and look - similar to a solar eclipse - in the same direction and wait for something to happen. At 4 p.m., all the blinds and cloths move down once and up again, completely changing the appearance of the facade within two minutes.

The building has a weather station on the roof that controls the blinds: when it's sunny they go down, when it's raining or stormy they go up. Beforehand, I tried to manipulate this sensor system by imitating the weather: I used a hairdryer to make the anemometer move and a strong lamp to imitate the sun for the light sensor.
